And now for another crazy promo: the Citi ThankYou Preferred is offering 50,000 ThankYou Points, worth $500 of gift cards, vaulting it to first place among the no-fee signup bonuses. You’ll receive 25,000 TY points for spending $5,000 in the first 6 months, and an additional 25,000 if you spend $5,000 in the next 6 months. The little bonus elves must be coming back from summer holidays, because these offers are coming thick and fast. And you thought the Dividend’s $300 promo was good? The Preferred now ranks near the top of the Citicards.

Take the money and run

We didn’t like the Citi ThankYou Preferred very much, especially in the days when we valued TY Points at only 0.8 cents apiece. But the bonus changes everything. The Preferred’s got a 1% base rewards rate, plus a negligible anniversary bonus worth at most 3% of the points you earn over the year. It has no annual fee, but its rewards rate is nothing short of underwhelming. But, with the bonus, you can get a spectacular value.

So what to do when you have a good bonus and bad ongoing rate? Bonus-h

The credit repair business is undoubtedly a booming industry. As consumers strive to come to grips with weighed down economy, the number of people afflicted by debt anxiety has exponentially increased; hence, the demand for professional, ethical and authoritative credit repair advisors has likewise conspicuously skyrocketed.

Of course, it is crucial for consumers to establish their credit worthiness and maintain good credit standing to be able to obtain and use credit; hence, those that experience credit setbacks and dilemma are more likely to seek assistance offered by credit repair companies. Not all credit repair organizations are created equal, though. Certain companies may push an individual – especially the ones with limited knowledge in credit matters and inadequate economic resources – into an even tighter spot with unlawful credit repair practices or misleading promises.

The Federal Trade Commission and Credit Repair Organizations Act and other consumer protection agencies have therefore implemented rules and regulations that protect the public from false advertising and deceptive/illegal business practices by credit repair companies. The

As a credit card issuer that has a reputation for exclusive rewards and services, American Express offers a range of credit cards that are almost immediately given esteem because of the name.

There are also many banks now partnered with Amex that offer even more reward options, especially for people who are looking to earn frequent flyer points quickly.

But this does not mean that they will be a good choice for everyone, so it is important to weigh up both the pros and cons before deciding to get an American Express card.

The Best Of American Express Credit Cards

One of the best things about American Express credit cards is that they generally offer significantly more points per dollar than any other kind of credit card.

The American Express Velocity Platinum card, for example, allows cardholders to earn up to 3 points per $1, which is 1.75 points more than Virgin’s own platinum High Flyer card.

Similarly, the 1.5 Qantas frequent flyer points per dollar offered on the Qantas American Express Ultimate card is on par with other card providers, many of whom have Amex options to increase the points potential.

There are also a number of other benefits that come from having an American Express card, including:

  • Concierge services
  • A high level of travel support and assistance
  • Exclusive shopping offers; and
  • Membership gifts

Some reward partners will also give priority access or airport lounge benefits to American Express cardholders, adding to your status when travelling almost anywhere in the world so it can pay off to have one in your wallet.

The Worst American Express Card Features

The most noticeable disadvantage to American Express cards is usually the annual fees, which can get as high as $400 or more for individual cards.

While the Gold Ascent credit card is one that offers no annual fee, most other American Express cards currently available have costs of $149 or more.

The other disadvantage that comes with having an American Express card is the high surcharge often tacked onto purchases by merchants. U

How to lower your credit card interest rate and more. You may have guessed by now that the credit card companies aren’t in business to be your friend. In spite of the warm and fuzzy mailers you receive telling you how much you mean to them as a customer, they would just as soon roll you over a barrel so they could collect all the change that falls to the ground.

OK, that may be a bit harsh, but, what is certain, is that they’re not about to volunteer any helpful advice that could result in significant savings on your credit card account. On the other hand, they just may be very accommodating if you know what to ask for and how to ask for it.

Can I get my interest rate lowered?

Amazingly, you can. All you need to do is ask. It won’t happen all of the time, but if you have been a good customer without late payments, you have the right to call them and ask for a break on your rate. Obviously, card companies offer lower rates to their more creditworthy customers. If yo
